Routine Cleaning

To maintain optimal dental health and a beautiful smile, we recommend that you have a regular dental exam and cleaning we will make a recommendation based upon your individual needs. At your regular check-up, we will perform the following:

• Examine Diagnostic X-rays (radiographs): X-rays help determine tooth and root positions. They are also crucial in detecting decay, tumors, cysts, or bone loss.
• Screen for Oral Cancers: We will check your face, neck, lips, tongue, throat, tissues, and gums for any signs of oral cancer.
• Assess for Gum Disease: We will check your gums and bone around the teeth for any signs of periodontal disease.
• Examine Tooth Decay: All tooth surfaces will be checked for decay with special dental instruments.
• Examine Existing Restorations: We will check all current fillings, crowns, bridges, etc.

After your examination, our certified dental hygienist will give your teeth a pain-free, thorough cleaning; leaving you with a smooth, plaque-free feeling that only professional cleaning can deliver. This will include:

• Removing calculus or ‘tartar’ buildup - the hardened plaque that firmly attaches to the tooth surface. Tartar forms above and below the gum line and can only be removed with special dental instruments.
• Removing plaque – the sticky, almost invisible film that forms on teeth. Plaque is a growing colony of living bacteria, food debris, and saliva. The bacteria produce toxins that can cause bad breath (halitosis), inflame the gums and be the start of periodontal disease.
• Teeth polishing – removing stains and plaque that are not otherwise removed during tooth brushing and scaling and leaving your teeth shining.
