Anxiety ControlProviding you with high-quality, appropriate care and making your dental visit as comfortable as possible are top priorities for Playfair Dental. Advances in dental techniques and medications can greatly reduce and even eliminate discomfort during dental treatment. Before administering any type of anesthesia, however, we require a thorough review of your medical history.
There are different options available to easy anxiety related to your dental treatment, including analgesics (non-narcotic agents include acetaminophen and ibuprofen; narcotic agents contain codeine and are used for more severe pain), nitrous oxide (“laughing gas”) sedatives, and local anesthesia to prevent pain in a specific area of your mouth. (General anesthesia, for more complex procedures, means you are unconscious and heavily sedated throughout a procedure.) General anesthesia is not performed in our office. Dr. Playfair has been on the staff of Headwaters Hospital since 1985, this is where challenging young patients can be successfully treated using general anesthesia if it is appropriate. |
